Knife Blocks are Expensive!

You can create your own knife block using Bamboo Skewers from the Dollar Store.  It's a great way to store your mismatched knives.

You can fill any size and shape container - This way you're not digging through a drawer full of those loose knives you've collected over the years  :)

Versitile Tortillas!

There are many different ways to put together: Tortillas, Meat, Cheese, and Vegetables.  If you have those four ingredients you can make countless dishes.  However, the "presentation" relies mainly on the way the Tortillas are prepared.  I'm not the cleverest when it comes to the preparation, as far as I'm concerned - "The easier the better!"

Here are a couple of easy ways to prepare the base of your tasty dish :)

Taco Bowls
These taco bowls are great for parties.  Flipping the Muffin Pan over allows you to make bowls out of the bigger tortilla shells :)  Below is a great presentation for tacos, the flat bottoms allow them to stand up, but also give plenty of room for toppings!  - Click the names for the detailed instructions :)

Few More Tips for the Kitchen :)

Few more tips for ya :)

Freeze your fresh herbs in olive oil - keeps them fresh, and also makes it easy to pre-measure

If you don't have an egg separator handy, break the eggs into a funnel. The whites will go through leaving the yolk intact in the funnel.

If you don't have a funnel handy, then it's back to "shell swappin" :)

Uncooked Spaghetti - store it like this :)
If a baking recipe calls you to "cut in" the butter, an easy way is to keep a stick of butter in the freezer. When needed, use a cheese grater to grate the butter into fine pieces :)

5 Brain Foods I wish I would've started eating earlier :)

1.  Blueberries

Just one cup of these tiny berries a day packs a wallop in terms of nutrition for the brain.  Studies have shown that they help protect the brain from the negative chemical effects of stress that may assist in reducing the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.  Doctors also believe blueberries can improve both learning capacity and motor skills!  So, go ahead and toss a handful of blueberries into your yogurt or cereal each morning.

2.  Almonds

Almonds have been shown to be another potent brain food.  Just an ounce a day of almonds provides you with a healthy treat that your brain will thank you for.  Scientists also believe that a diet rich in almonds may have a positive effect on memory function.

3.  Wild Salmon

Fish rich in Omega-3 fatty acids like salmon are terrific treats for the brain!  Salmon has been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain, improve moods and contribute to overall healthy brain function.  Numerous studies have shown that eating about 4 ounces of wild salmon 2 to 3 times per week significantly reduces the risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s!  Wild salmon is preferred due to its lowest traces of environmental toxins.

4.  Green Tea

Okay, I’ll admit you usually drink tea instead of eating it.  However, the benefits of green tea to the brain are too great to leave it off the list on a technicality.  Studies have shown that green tea boosts dopamine levels which is critical for positive mood states and smooth muscle function.

5.  Dark Chocolate

I saved the best for last!  I’m a chocolate fanatic so this one really excites me.  A half ounce to one ounce of dark chocolate a day will give you the maximum benefit.  The small amount of caffeine in dark chocolate will help your concentration and focus.  It is a great mid-morning pick-me-up!  In addition, dark chocolate stimulates the production of endorphins in the brain which improves mood.  It also contains powerful antioxidants which aids blood flow critical to peak brain performance.

10 Great Kitchen Tips!

1. Making those Pancakes/Waffles on your morning off? Neat little trick should help with the mess :)

2. Open Bananas from the other "not stem" end - You won't believe that you did it the other way for so long... just pinch it :)

3. If you have some leftover wine at the end of the evening, freeze it in ice cube trays for easy addition to soups and sauces in the future... or just as ice :)

4. Turn Any Blender into a Magic Bullet with a Mason Jar - Turns out MOST mason Jars will fit the blender blade as a lid... just fill, fasten, and flip :)

5. If you aren’t sure how fresh your eggs are, place them in about four inches of water.
-Eggs that stay on the bottom are fresh.
-If only one end tips up, the egg is less fresh and should be used soon.
-If it floats, it’s past the fresh stage.

I like learning stuff :)

6. Stuff a miniature marshmallow in the bottom of the cone to prevent ice cream drips - then just eat the marshmallow as a dessert after dessert :)
7. Handy trick when cutting cutting a bunch of little things in half. All you need are the tops of two to-go containers. (or just lids in general)

8. To keep potatoes from budding, place an apple in the bag with the potatoes. A real apple....don't throw your iPhone in there :)

9. When cooking pasta - Rub the edges of the pot with Butter. The water will not boil over and make a mess on your stove :)

10. Save butter wrappers in the freezer to use for greasing pans when baking :)
